Meditation & Biofeedback Breathwork
We, in our society, walk around with too much anxiety and stress which means we tend to over activate our sympathetic nervous system – this is the part of the nervous system that kicks into gear when we go into “fight or flight” mode. A very useful thing when we were running from predators a good portion of the day, but less useful today. When our sympathetic nervous system is too strong we have cold hands and feet, heart beat irregularity, and high blood pressure to name just a few things. Breathwork can correct this by strengthening the parasympathetic nervous system that is in charge of calming the body. Breathwork opens a link between your conscious and unconscious and it is a link between your mind and body. Breath is also the only function in the human body that can be both entirely voluntary or be entirely involuntary. By working with the breath voluntarily you can effect imbalances in the involuntary system which are at the root of many health problems including high blood pressure. |
